4Media iPhone Ringtone Maker is an audio file converter. The iPhone is a great phone, but it is extremely picky. It won't just let you use any .mp3 file to use as a ringtone, for example. Instead, it uses a proprietary format: m4r. iTunes can play that format quite well and, also, it can convert any file to .m4r. However, doing so in iTunes requires a little expertise.
4Media iPhone Ringtone Maker does the job for you and provides some nice features to make the whole process considerably easier. For one, it gives you a graphical interface to do the job. You can simply drag the mp3 file that you want to use to the application's window for it to be loaded. Then, you can set a start point and an end point to specify what part of the song you want your ringtone to be made out of. You can do this manually by inputting the time into the fields or you can drag and drop two black markers on the screen. There is a built-in audio player so that you can calculate these points. The selected part becomes green and the part left out turns gray.
The application can convert files without you having iTunes installed. But if you do, it can also upload those new ringtones directly to your iPhone, saving a bit of time in the process.
All in all, the application does nothing new, but it does make the process of converting mp3 (and other popular formats) to m4r files a lot easier.
